I’m sitting at my computer desk, trying to write a new article. To my right is the stack of new CDs from my trip to Buenos Aires last year. New CDs are usually uploaded directly to my database, which takes less than 10 minutes per CD (including tagging). Afterward, they go into a storage box. There aren’t many CDs left to review, and I admit that I mainly bought modern electronic tango, as my collection in that genre is rather weak. So, only two CDs remain. One of them is a collection by Julio de Caro (which, of course, isn’t electronic music, but was also needed to complete my collection). Today, we’ll be looking at Tanghetto’s 2012 CD, ‘Incidental Tango.’

Tanghetto was founded as a band in Buenos Aires in 2002 by producer Max Masri and guitarist Diego S. Velazques [1]. The band consists of bandoneon (played by Federico Vazquez), cello (played by Chao Xu), piano (Antonio Boyadjian), as well as keyboards, guitar and drums (Daniel Corrado) [2]. The first album, ‘Emigrante,’ was released in 2003. Ten more albums, titled ‘Incidental Tango,’ followed until 2012. Frequently played songs at milongas include ‘Alexanderplatz Tango’ (my favorite), ‘Emigrante,’ ‘Enjoy the Silence,’ and many more.
Since it’s a blend of tango and electronic music, not all the songs are suitable for traditional milongas, but I enjoy playing some at modern milongas that allow for neo-tango music. Most of the music online comes from older CDs. However, this might be sufficient to familiarize yourself with Tanghetto’s music, for example.
Here are some examples.

Here is a beautiful example of a show by Sebastian Arce and Mariana Montes, dancing to tanghetto music, and a live performance from Poland by Andrzej Bernas & Justyna Jendrzejewska from 2013:
