Among the many orchestras in Buenos Aires, those that play tango for dancers are particularly interesting. These orchestras are frequently found at milongas, both large and small, playing tangos for the dancing crowd. You’ll often encounter OT Misteriosa Buenos Aires at La Viruta (Armenia 1366) or Salon Canning (Av. Raul Scalabrini Ortiz 1331).
OT Misteriosa BsAs is a typical sextet with two additional violins and a female vocalist. The name is particularly interesting as it refers to an old Argentinian short story collection, ‘Misteriosa Buenos Aires,’ by Manuel Mujica Lainez, which depicts life in Buenos Aires.
The Orquesta was founded in 2008 by pianist Javier Arias. It consists of a double bass, two to three bandoneons, four violins, and singer Eliana Sosa. Their style can be described as traditional, rooted in the Golden Age of tango, with a fresh sound and modern tango melodies, without being overly dramatic or emotional. This appeals to dancers and is likely to make the Orquesta popular in the dance scene. Tango DJs should also consider the orchestra a worthwhile addition to their repertoire.
