Featured Artist for June: Bajofondo with their new CD ‘Presente’

Bajofondo is an Argentinian-Uruguayan electrotango project. Members are: Gustavo Santaolalla (guitar), Juan Campodonico (composer, producer, DJ), Luciano Supervielle (piano, composer, DJ), Martin Ferres (bandoneon), Javier Casalla (violin), Gabriel Casacuberta (bass), Veronica Loza ( (Singing). The group interprets tango from the perspective of modern music genres such as house and hip hop. The style is called Electrotango, a subgenre of Neotango. The meaning of Bajofondo is the bottom of the social scale and also an acronym for a dark and hidden place where tango is played.

 

The first CD was released in 2003 (Bajofondo Tango Club), which (along with the music of the Gotan Project) is the most important CD in Neotango. Today we want to focus on the 2013 CD ‘Presente’.

Presente is a compilation of different styles, mainly Latin rock, disco and house music. Definitely not easy to listen to, but with a straight beat that fits well on the dance floor. The rhythm and dynamics of the music challenge the sharp milongero and inspire modern dance movements.
